R.I.P. FREE MEET AND GREET...

Immigration SA have now finally closed their Meet and Greet and On-Arrival Housing Services. They have refocussed their efforts in three areas:

• a continuation of the monthly Information Sessions
• Skills Recognition Service - free if you have full working rights in Australia
• and the Employment Linkages Services (ELS) to help to put migrants in touch with selected Employment Sector Service Providers.

ADELAIDE HOUSE AND RENTAL PRICES

According to the Australia Bureau of Statistics, house prices in Adelaide are currently stabilising and are set to fall slightly, whereas the difficulties for first time buyers breaking into the property market is putting pressure on rental prices which are gradually rising.

RAIL EXTENSION NOARLUNGA TO SEAFORD

Good news (when it is complete anyway!) for those living 'Down South'. Major construction works on the rail extension commenced in early 2011, with the new line scheduled for passenger operation in late 2013, along with the completion of the electrification of the Noarlunga line. This is supposedly remaining on target despite the discovery of Aboriginal ancestral remains at Noarlunga Downs. For more info...

NEW SA AQUATIC CENTRE OPENS AT MARION

I have personally tested this one and it is every bit as good as it looks! Lockers are limited in number but everyone seems to be very trusting, taking waterproof bags and placing them on the many seating areas available. With many choices of payment plans, it's worth thinking about what facilities you want to use regularly and paying in advance. A swim/sauna/steam session is $10 but you can buy a 10 use pass for $70...plenty of free parking too...whether you are a lap swimmer or a water slide enthusiast, you will be knocked out by the sheer scale of the place.
